S7 LM

The Saleen S7 LM is the most powerful American-built production car ever offered — 1,500 hp from a twin-turbocharged 7.0L V8, limited to 7 units worldwide per year. Le Mans-derived aerodynamics, 6-speed sequential gearbox, and a top speed exceeding 250 mph. Each unit is hand-built at Saleen's Irvine, California facility.

Overview

Steve Saleen built his name on Mustang modifications before proving American engineering could compete at Le Mans. The S7 first raced at Le Mans in 2006, achieving class victory and demonstrating that a small California manufacturer could build a world-class racing car from scratch. The current S7 LM takes that heritage and applies modern turbocharged power to create something extraordinary.

The 7.0L twin-turbocharged V8 was developed entirely in-house at Saleen's Irvine facility. The engine produces 1,500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque — figures that rival the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Regera at a fraction of the European cars' pricing. Sequential gearbox shifts are completed in 80 milliseconds. The carbon fiber monocoque weighs just 2,900 lbs despite the massive power output.

Aerodynamics are derived directly from Saleen's Le Mans racing program. The massive rear wing generates over 4,000 lbs of downforce at 200 mph — enough to theoretically drive the car on a ceiling. Ground effect tunnels channel air under the car to create additional downforce without drag penalty. At 250+ mph the car becomes progressively more planted, not less.

With only 7 units produced annually, every S7 LM is a guaranteed appreciating asset. Saleen numbers each car sequentially and provides full factory documentation, making them immediately collectible. Competitors include the Koenigsegg Jesko, Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, and SSC Tuatara — all priced higher for equivalent or lesser performance.

Costs & Comparison

Ownership Costs

S7 LM ownership is ultra-exclusive — Saleen manages service directly. Insurance runs $25,000–$50,000 annually. Specialist carbon body repair runs $50,000–$100,000 for significant damage. 7-unit production means each car is an irreplaceable asset.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Saleen S7 LM are produced?
Saleen produces approximately 7 S7 LM units per year. This extreme production limit is deliberate — it maintains exclusivity, allows hand-assembly with individual attention on every car, and guarantees collector value. All are pre-sold before build commences.
How does the Saleen S7 compare to a Bugatti Chiron?
The S7 LM (1,500 hp, $1.25M) actually outpowers the standard Chiron (1,500 hp, $3.3M) at roughly one-third the cost. The Bugatti has more European brand prestige; the Saleen has Le Mans racing provenance and American heritage. Aerodynamic performance of the S7 LM is superior due to active racing-derived aero.
What fuel does the Saleen S7 LM use?
The S7 LM requires 110 octane racing fuel for maximum power. It can run on 93 octane premium with reduced boost, producing approximately 1,200 hp. For road use, 93 octane is standard; 110 octane is for track and maximum-performance use only.
Is the Saleen S7 LM street legal in the US?
Yes — the S7 LM is street legal in all 50 states. Saleen maintains CARB Executive Order certification and the car meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. It comes with full DOT lighting and road-legal specifications.
Does the S7 LM have air conditioning?
Yes. Despite being a dedicated performance car, the S7 LM includes air conditioning, satellite navigation, and a premium audio system. Saleen's philosophy is that a $1.25M car must be livable, not just fast.
What is the Saleen S7 LM 0-100-0 time?
Saleen claims a 0-100-0 time of approximately 6.5 seconds — accelerating to 100 mph and braking to a complete stop. The carbon ceramic brakes provide deceleration forces over 2.0g, which is critical for managing the S7 LM's high entry speeds.
Can the Saleen S7 be serviced outside California?
Saleen has authorized service centers in select US cities and internationally. Major service work on the engine and sequential gearbox is recommended at the Irvine factory. Annual inspections can be arranged through authorized service partners.
What is the warranty on the Saleen S7 LM?
The S7 LM includes a 3-year/unlimited-mileage warranty on Saleen-built components. Given the limited production volume, warranty service is handled directly by Saleen's factory team with personalized attention to each car.
